Why this petition matters

Congressman John Sarbanes, is supporting the  anti-India resolution H. Res. 1196 introduced by Ilhan Omar. This bill is wrong, and have no basis of truth other than may be serving some political agenda. This bill, if successful will permanently taint and wrongly project loving and law abiding people of American Indian diaspora as anti human rights.

We as Indians know that there are no basis to this allegations and assertions of wrong doing against India and Indian people. India is a thriving democracy, it's has one of the most diverse population of faiths, backgrounds, and religions living together peacefully. Here is what Pew Research says regarding religious freedom in India which reports that Indians of all these religious backgrounds overwhelmingly say they are very free to practice their faiths.” - This includes 89% of Muslims, 89% of Christians and 82% of Sikhs. "Religious tolerance was also an overwhelmingly positive trait practiced by Indians of all faiths."

Letter to congressman John Sarbanes:

Dear Hon. Congressman Sarbanes,

I'm contacting you to reconsider your support for H Res 1196. I believe your support for the resolution is misguided. While India is not a perfect country, it is a vibrant secular democracy in a volatile region. India's record of protecting the minority is second to none. From Europe to India, the only other democracy is in Israel. The other countries in between mostly have eliminated their minorities or have severely curtailed their rights. You may not know, unlike the United States, India has special civil rights for Muslims, respecting their sharia customs. India's Muslims are governed by the Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Application Act, 1937. This law deals with marriage, succession, inheritance, and charities among Muslims. Also, recently India passed The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. It amended the Citizenship Act by providing a pathway to Indian citizenship for persecuted religious minorities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan who are Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, or Christians. No other country in the world has such a law that institutionalizes asylum for minorities from neighboring countries. I hope you will not support the anti-India agenda of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

Sincerely,

An Indian
