All year long we're bombarded with emails, ads, signs, and more, urging us to treat our mom/dad/caregiver/sibling/spouse/etc to a special [insert holiday] gift. All of these special days are lovely, and the promotions may even be helpful to some. But when you've experienced the death of someone in your life, getting these emails can be devastating. 

We understand that businesses are not setting out to do harm with these promotional emails. Until you've experienced grief personally, it's not something that you think about. But now more than ever, grief is at the forefront of society. Over six million people have died from COVID alone.

And there’s something companies can do to make the experience of grief a tiny bit less painful–it's actually easy: We’re inviting companies around the world to #offeroptout for holiday emails.

Companies can send an email that allows their customer base to opt out of any holiday email they wish. This lets customers know that the company truly cares for each of us as a person. 

Corporations like Etsy, OpenTable, Canva, and more have already made the offer.  In fact, there are actually 150 brands that offer these opt-out emails and are part of the "Thoughtful Marketing Movement." Let’s get other companies to join them and make this be the NORM.

Once we get the signatures we need, we’ll share the petition with the top 50 consumer-facing Fortune 500 companies inviting them to create this policy and help support grieving people everywhere.
