David Beckner started this petition to Upshur County Board of Education

This petition supports the traditional 5 day a week return to school schedule considering the pandemic of Covid-19 in Upshur County, West Virginia.

The previous options from our local BOE were as follows:

1.) 5 day traditional schedule.

2.) Virtual learning

3.) Homeschool

As of this past week, the BOE has back peddled to two groups of students (A and B) attending two days a week.

I personally am for the traditional schedule.  If you don't want to send your child to public school, so be it and is your choice.  You have the option to do Virtual learning.  I personally am for my kids returning to normalcy.  I understand the difference of opinions concerning this situation.  This petition is not meant to be a further dividing line, but rather a voice for those who stand together who have had enough of the current situation.

I elect to not let this further affect my children.  So many restraints have been forced upon those of us that have idly sat by unheard, but I'm making my voice heard today, tomorrow, the next day, and the day after that.

From credible sources, it's my understanding that the BOE desires a traditional schedule, but is being directed otherwise by our Superintendent.  Other sources say it's Board members, and not the Superintendent.   We need to know what's going on.

We need to have a voice in our children's education.  Not simply being bullied by one or two people elected to a position who does not listen to their community.

Has anyone even thought of the bus drivers working 2 days week?  I can tell you this, you won't have any.  They are quitting or retiring for a certain reason, and it's not Covid.

I'm asking those of you who prefer a traditional return to school please sign this petition.

Thank you in advance, and God Bless!

David Beckner
