Urgent boundary review needed for Ross R Mackay Public School

Dwindling enrollment at Ross R Mackay is adversely affecting our students and community.

The low number of students affects the resources and funds we are given to support Spec Ed, Child Youth Care Workers and Educational Assistants. Further, the extremely low class sizes affect socialization and may prevent our ability to attract and keep new staff members. Repurposing the school may not be a feasible or safe option. Daycare spaces were recently put in Erin Public School, we have a brand new library in Hillsburgh, that leaves Adult day classes or satellite College classes which is a security concern.

From a Community perspective Ross R Mackay is in the middle of town, a walkable school and the bus transfer area for all other schools. Having this school shut down would severely impact the community. What about the residents of Hillsburgh? We all know that towns, big or small, tend to be more successful when there's a school within the boundaries. What will happen if the school does close? Finding ways to repurpose the space does not mean that the building will remain a school. Without a school, how many new residents will look at Hillsburgh as a growing community?
