On August 15, 2017 North Carolina Governor Roy Copper called for Confederate statues to come down in North Carolina.
"RALEIGH, NC (WECT) - Governor Roy Cooper said Tuesday it's time for Confederate statues to come down across North Carolina and outlined a plan for their removal."
"He said he believes the North Carolina legislature must repeal a 2015 law that prevents removal or relocation of monuments."
The law in question is N.C.G.A. § 100-2.1. Protection of monuments, memorials, and works of art. The law protects not just those of the Civil War Era but ALL of North Carolina's 228 year history.
The entry law can be read here http://www.ncleg.net/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/PDF/ByChapter/Chapter_100.pdf
We the undersigned beseech the members of the North Carolina Legistature to uphold the existing law and continue to Honor and Protect ALL of North Carolina's long and diverse history. Thank You.
