Why this petition matters

Started by Jon Morgan

Eisenhower High School has been in existence for 11 years and has grown substantially.  The school would benefit greatly from a stadium expansion that would allow it to host its own varsity football games.  Home football games are the largest athletic sporting event that bring the students, parents, and community  together to cheer on their school.  The school and the football teams have never had the opportunity to experience a true “home” varsity football game.  Currently the football team and all of its equipment, along with band and its equipment, and all cheer and dance teams, Booster Club, etc. have to load up and travel to Goddard stadium for a "home game."  The current stadium is overcrowded and insufficent for the events it currently hosts -- JV and freshmen football games, all soccer games, track meets - fan are sitting shoulder to shoulder and the visitor stands are vastly undersized.   An upgrade to the stadium that is already there would bring positive attention to the school and increase school pride.  There are 24 AVCTL schools in the wichita area, and Eisenhower is the only one to not have its own football stadium. It’s a matter of equity and competitiveness that Eisenhower should have its own varsity stadium.  The athletes work hard and put in hours upon hours of work.  Let’s give the school, the athletes of soccer, football, track, dance, cheerleaders, and the band something to be proud of. The school board of Goddard School District should follow the wishes of the petitioners, taxpayers, parents, and students and place Eisenhower Stadium upgrade as a project to be funded by the proceeds of the next bond issue.
