I am starting a petition to ask the City of Crown Point to update the traffic signs for the one way roads, in the downtown area.  The main problem is the one way signage at the intersection of Main St. and Clark St. The number of cars that go the wrong way, southbound on main street, is an imminent problem. My fellow community members and I have witnessed many pedestrians, bicyclists, and cars in danger because of this. It happens everyday, multiple times a day, and that made me start to ask... Why? and How can this consistently be happening? 

I care about this topic because I work at the Lake County Courthouse and I have been a member of this community my entire life. From my investigation, I found only one, red sign that states “Do No Enter” above the street lights on Clark and Main st. Community members agree that because the sign is red, it is very hard to see against the red Courthouse during the day.  Additionally, the sign is not not lit up, so it is not visible at night when this happens most often.  As the city continues to grow and more and more people travel to visit our historic community, I am afraid something serious could happen before change is made.  With that being said, here are my solutions:

I am suggesting that the city paint the road, before the intersection to alert the drivers before entering.  I also suggest adding solar power lights around the traffic signs to increase visibility at night and being it solar power it should help to keep costs minimal for the city.  Lastly, I suggest adding another concrete flower pot on the north east corner of the Courthouse, keeping pedestrians out of harms way. These updates could significantly help in the downtown community, while also safely directing the flow of traffic at any time of the day. I hope we can come together to drive change for the better.
