Why this petition matters

In the evening of September 14, 2020, a 19 year old girl, its important to mention, dalit girl, was in the fields with her family, working. While cutting the grass, wearing the least opinionated clothing in India, Salwar Suit, four men, again important to mention, four upper caste men, grabbed her by her dupatta and gang raped her. This all took place in a small village, Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. These men tried to strangle her to death and left her fighting for her life. According to multiple reports, she was tortured with her tongue cut and spine broken. Reportedly, the victim died on September 20, 2020. Her body was cremated in isolation at 2 in the morning by a few police officers.

A lot of ministers, politicians, Police Officers, even UP's honorable CM, Yogi Adityanath has openly conveyed that strict actions would be taken against the Rapists, and we believe so. But this is just one out of the many cases that happened over a month. Just because people became woke about this one rape case, just because this very rape case was telecasted by the media doesn't mean the other rape survivors don't need justice.

Uttar Pradesh is seeing a large number of new cases of young girls being raped, and in many cases these young girls are from Dalit communities. In this report, Lakhimpur Kheri in UP, has seen many incidents of minor girls being raped or gangraped after they went outside of their village.

We need more strict actions on Sexual Assaults. Someone needs to be responsible for the girls who are living, because no matter where they are, be it at home, at work, at park, walking down a street, they are not safe. A 7 year old toddler isn't safe and same goes for a 17 year old student, a 27 year old working woman, a 47 year old mother or 77 year old woman. No, the cases for sexual assaults haven't reportedly decreased as the government might infer, so we need strict actions for saving the women's lives.
