Revive & enhance cycling infrastructure in UP to de-congest roads & improve air quality

Our cities are choking with poor air quality and roads congested with vehicular traffic that is becoming unmanageable. Programs like "odd-even" don't bring much relief since the cities struggle with providing citizens with adequate public transport.
Cycling is one of the most efficient means of commuting as proved in several cities across the world and we need to develop an ecosystem to support the same. Not only do we need to create awareness around riding to work, support from the government is required to revive and enhance the existing cycling infrastructure in cities like Noida, Lucknow and Bareilly and make them examples that other cities in India can emulate.
While there are several cycling communities in UP and NCR that are already driving initiatives around creating awareness around using cycles for commuting, here is what we need from the Government
- Take back decision to demolish existing cycling tracks in Noida, Greater Noida, Bareilly and Lucknow - Tax payers money was spent on it and if they are not being used, the government should take measures to understand the why and what and then take corrective action
- Setup a panel including representatives from the government, local development authorities and cycling communities - The panel should evaluate current status, propose next steps and report back to the CM on a 6 monthly basis
- Sponsor set-up of a cycling ecosystem in the state - That not only includes cycle tracks/lanes, but mobile apps - that make it easy for commuters to locate tracks and report any issues with them, cycle stands and cycle rental stations at metro stations, malls & office areas, benefits for citizens who choose cycling over driving - to name a few
This is not just needed for "our" cities. This is what the planet needs. Climate change starts with "us". The sooner we act, the sooner we will be able to slow down climate change and ensure that our children and generations to come, see the planet better than how we see it today.
