It was recently decided that the University of South Carolina has changed December commencement services to virtual for 2020. This is extremely unfair to everyone who has worked hard to graduate. They have had in-person classes this semester and college football. We should be able to have an in-person graduation ceremony if they can allow students in a classroom together and people to gather at large sporting events. There should be restrictions, such as social distancing, masks, and a reduced number of guests, but we should be allowed to have a real ceremony. The number of guests can be reduced to just two parents if necessary, or the ceremony can be broken into multiple ceremonies for the graduates to attend. We should not have to miss this once in a lifetime opportunity when college football was not cancelled for our school. The ceremony can be held at the football stadium if necessary, but there should be a way that we can walk across the stage this December. If we cannot walk in December, we should have the option to walk in the Spring. It is extremely unfair that the university thinks college football and in-person classes are fine to have, but not a graduation ceremony. Please sign this if you agree and want to fight back for what we have earned.
