Due to the vagueness of UNT Dallas' commencement plan, lack of communication, and the discovery of a lack of student representation; this petition has been created to support students desire for the Spring 2021 graduation to be hosted in person before July 1st, 2021. 

Students were under the impression that commencement was being held May 7, as previously scheduled, since they had not been advised otherwise.

On February 22, UNT Dallas graduates were advised that the commencement committee had confirmed that the university will host an in-person graduation for Spring 2021. This email also included a link for students to purchase a cap and gown by April 1, 2021. A second email was sent March 5, advising students to prepare for the upcoming commencement and order cap and gowns by April 1. On March 19, students received a third email stating that graduation would be held "in the latter of Summer 2021" and the deadline to order caps and gowns was extended until June 11th.

The most disheartening part is many students are unaware of the situation at hand. Since the communication has been very vague, many students have told me that they were expecting a June graduation since it was worded to be in the "latter of Summer." After realizing the late graduation date, many have expressed their dissent.

As of now, students have not been provided a official date for commencement. Students have expressed their concerns with having a late August graduation as well as the lack of communication and clearly structured plan.
