End Unequal Access to Higher Education!

End Unequal Access to Higher Education!

The Issue

In recent news, it has surfaced that the wealthy have been bribing universities into letting their children attend their institutions. such as in the case of Yale in which a soccer coach at Yale was bribed $400,000 to accept a student on her team. Furthermore, another incident was reported at Stanford University where a sailing coach had accepted a $500,000 bribe in order for two students to gain admissions. By doing this, wealthy parents are taking away the opportunity of the students who have worked hard to receive admissions into these universities.

This is just one of the many issues that are creating inequality in obtaining access to higher education within the United States. To add on, racial minorities are discriminated through institutions such as school districts and school boards limiting their access to higher education and further reinforcing internalized oppression. This includes those who are poor, the lower middle class, Black students, Latinx students, dreamers, and many others who are marginalized by society.

Is it fair for hard-working students to be overlooked due to their socioeconomic backgrounds? Is it fair for the wealthy to be able to pay their way into institutions without fully qualifying?

No, it isn’t. It is time for us young citizens and students to fight for the end of unequal access to higher education! This is unjust and that is why I created this petition. Sign this petition in an effort to end inequality in higher education! Let's make a change in our society! Let's end bribery and admission corruption within the college system because it is unfair that capable students are losing the opportunity of admission into these schools while others who did not work hard for their admission are being bribed an admission into the schools.
