Make our community safer and protect our pack
Make our community safer and protect our pack
This petition is in response to the sexual assault of a UNM staff member on campus on August 31, 2021. As detailed in this local news article, "the suspect is no stranger to police" or the District Attorney's Office. As a community, we demand action and reform. We are imploring the state of New Mexico and all members of the Albuquerque metro to support a safer community through measures such as:
1. Supporting the DA in detaining individuals who have a long criminal record and are a danger to the community. Rehabilitation and treatment should be the goals of detainment as much as possible, while still prioritizing taking appropriate measures to keep our community safe.
2. Increase funding for mental health and substance abuse treatment services. Our state desperately needs well-funded mental health providers and facilities.
3. Expanding programs that fight poverty in our communities, so that everyone has access to the basic necessities of food, clothing, shelter and healthcare.
We ask that all elements of our state come together to rapidly reform laws, processes, and systems to make our community safer.
