Expand the hours of operation for the UNLV Lied Library to 24/5

We all know that the work isn't over once you leave the classroom, but that it continues in places like the Lied Library. The Lied Library provides many students like myself a safe place to study late at night, great wireless connectivity, fast working computers, and ample space and study rooms for students to meet and collaborate on ideas. Graduate students need a space, like the graduate commons on the second floor, open for 24 hours, where they can study and pursue their own research as well. I, like other students, depend on the computer terminals at the Lied Library to complete my homework assignments. Keeping the Lied Library open for 24 hours every day would serve to provide me with more flexibility with my busy schedule but also a safe space for when I need to study late at night.
Need more evidence? On September 26, 2007, University of Hawaiʻi Manoa‘s Hamilton Library launched the opening of their facilities for 24-hour from Monday-Friday every week. On October 24th, 2014, Trinity College opened a 24-hour section of their Ussher library called Kinsella Hall. On September 8th, 2015, the University of Missouri’s Ellis Library opened 24 hours a day Sunday through Thursday and included extended weekend hours, in response to student demand. The Lamont Library at Harvard University opens for 24/4 every week, and so does Emory University's Robert W. Woodruff Library Building, and UC Berkeley's Moffitt Library as well. If many other university libraries across the country are doing this, then why can't we follow that trend?
We all know that the work isn't over once you leave the classroom. While convincing the administration to open the library 24/7 may be difficult to reasonably accomplish, 24 hours a day/5 days a week is not an unreasonable request and can be done with the right restrictions/conditions. I believe that, moving forward, keeping the Lied Library's open at least 24/5 for would keep us at a competitive edge with other top research institutions across the nation, attracting more students to UNLV.
