Unlock Stairway 1's Internal Doors of Granite Pass and Sentinel Rock
In the University of California Merced, two residence buildings, Granite Pass and Sentinel Rock, have only one way for residents to get to their respective floors. The elevator.
Requiring students to use the elevator and giving them no access to a single stairway is unfair to those who want exercise but also unsafe especially as you are allowing as much as four exit points but only one entry point, and it would be even worse if there were to be elevators that are out-of-order in either building.
While the main stairway in both was never designed as an exit-only stairway, it can only be used as one, because while residents of both buildings can enter the stairways with their ID cards, they cannot access their floors through those stairways since the doors leading to their floors are what are locked, which does not make any sense.
I would appreciate if you would sign this petition and give these residents the ability to enter through at least one stairway.
