USG Residence Halls

USG Residence Halls
Why this petition matters
During the Coronavirus Pandemic it would be safer if residence halls were to remain open during the quarantine. Students can continue with online class and just be limited to the campus. This will help control a population influx back home and be easier on households that are not able to accommodate another person. This also would be beneficial to those who came from out of state and those who are not able to find somewhere to live. As a compromise, students could take on a larger workload since they will be learning through online classes. For this quarantine we should only be charged housing and a modified tuition rate since we will not get to physically be in the classroom. The refund will give some kind of financial relief to students during the upcoming months and will still provide the school with a flow of income. Overall, the University System of Georgia should consider keeping residence halls open and just have students engage in coursework online. This will promote social distancing and increase productivity. Personally, this change is very sudden to all parties involved and this would be the easiest transition on parents as well so that they can have a grace period before their child comes home and needs accommodation. In the end this will be beneficial to everyone while maintaining a high priority on safety.
