The USC has recently announced that it intends to stop covering the London Transit Bus pass for students who have all online courses. This puts a significant burden upon students who may already be under tight financial constraint given the cost of public transit within London and the necessity of public transit due to the lack of amenities in close proximity to the university. The University Students Council commits itself to the well-being of its students and social justice. Yet, with this policy they are ensuring that thousands of students will have to pay out of pocket for something necessary for basic needs, work and academic obligations other than lectures. This will inevitably hurt the most financially disaffected and marginalized students within the Western student body and contravenes the core principles of the USC. The USC ought either reintroduce coverage of the LTC bus by including the LTC pass in students academic fees or providing an option to have it covered within a students academic fees.
