WISPIRG Student Action started this petition to University of Wisconsin- Madison

PIRG is a grassroots student organization active on over 100 campuses across the country. We are focused on several issues in the Madison area this fall and would love to work with you in trying to solve them.  To learn more about our organization and the WISPIRG Campus Action, visit our link studentpirgs.org/wisconsin.

Our priority campaign this fall is our Break Free From Plastics (BFFP) campaign. BFFP is an international movement dedicated to reducing consumption and production of single-use plastics. Single-use plastics pollute our environment, damage our ecosystems, and contribute to the worsening climate crisis. We firmly believe that something we use just once shouldn’t pollute our environment for hundreds of years.

Here at Madison, we are trying to do our part by reducing consumption and use of these worse types of plastics wherever we can within the campus community. Recent waste audits show the average UW student produces almost 640 pounds of waste each year, a large portion of which comes from these single-use plastics.

In order to do this, we are working with student groups and campus faculty to show the widespread support for plastic reduction on campus, and call attention to the extent of this problem. Help us gain support by signing our petition to pledge against single-use plastic!
