No Detriment Policy- University of Westminster
No Detriment Policy- University of Westminster
Why this petition matters
This petition is to put forward the 'No Detriment policy' for those in their final year at the University of Westminster. There has been concern regarding our deadlines and quality of marks achieved in the month of March, April and May. Our university claims to care about our health and safety; where during this global pandemic, we as university full of a range of students, want to achieve the best that we can. Our voices need to be heard. Our university is considering postponing our Graduation, which already acts as a shatter to the personal successes we've achieved during our years at University. Many other universities are putting in place this policy to offer a safety net, where through the move to online teaching- there has been a struggle to gain the full access to quality face-to-face teaching from our lecturers. Coronavirus has put us all in a state of panic and it is not being taken seriously enough in line with our future success at the university. We feel as though this safety net for marking should be put in place to ensure that student's work has not gone to waste, and future marks are not put at risk.
There are many students that are unable to access the full lengths of this online teaching, finding it hard to gain their own individual laptops as it was easy to rely on the university for these resources. Some may not have comfortable work spaces and quiet environments in order to reach their full potential. As a result, this will have a detrimental knock on affect to our future careers, with the classification of our degrees not reaching the full potential that could have been. Having this lack of teaching can only have a negative impact on achieving the best marks that students have previously been able to get. Also, those that struggle with mental health can severely be effected during this difficult time, making it much more harder to complete assessments to their full capacity.
We ask for our voices to be heard and the no detriment policy be put in place to ensure that students are given the safety net of marks previously awarded to them.
