Recently, I posted an article with The Daily and the UW Reddit. After a substantial response from both students and faculty, it is obvious that a change is necessary. Support is needed for all students who wish to remain remote up until the point where they can return safely to campus at their discretion. Disabled students need additional support in doing so, non-disabled students need support if they want it, and faculty need support in helping students to achieve these goals. This flexibility benefits all students as it enables anyone to take the necessary precautions if they are exposed to COVID-19 or another contagious disease.

The university has a commitment to equitable learning and recently has not lived up to such a commitment for their disabled and vulnerable students or staff. I am calling on the university to provide more accommodations for students and staff who feel that returning to campus is unsafe for them or their families while enabling those who wish to continue with in-person learning to do so safely.
