University of Vermont Divestment from TD Bank

Dear President Sullivan or those it may concern,
On behalf of the University of Vermont student body, we come to you as one lab section of students from the International Environmental Studies class. We would like to address UVM's relationship with TD Bank. Currently, UVM actively accepts and supports the investment decisions of TD Bank by welcoming their presence on our campus. However, we believe that TD Bank's investments go against not only our personal morals, but the overall belief and rhetoric of the University in regards to environmental and human rights protection. Their recent investment in Energy Transfer Partners and the Dakota Access Pipeline supports not only fossil fuels, but more directly, the human and tribal rights of the Standing Rock Sioux. These attributes of TD's investment are condemned on our campus through both varying student opinions in addition to the teachings and philosophy of our Faculty and Staff.
Furthermore, we believe that should the University of Vermont continue to strive toward environmental protection and sustainability, they should not associate with those institutions which do not.
