More on this petition:
We are starting this petition by providing a voice to students across the University of Toronto (St. George, Mississauga and Scarborough). We are advocating through this petition to lower the cost of tuition for the Fall 2020, Winter 2021 school year. Due to COVID-19, classes have resulted in a virtual learning environment, thus limiting the resources and access to overall information. The tuition should be lowered because we should not pay the same amount we previously did, as we have limited university amenities such as the gym, library, counselling services, and the opportunity for overall community engagement. Students have begun to adapt to the new norm of both asynchronous and synchronous classes, but despite the encouragement received from professors, students' online learning has presented itself with several challenges. Not only are we in charge for our own learning, the constant screen time has impacted our mental health and strain on technology. COVID-19 has presented itself as economical hardship for all of Canada and students alike. Paying full tuition to the University where the academic experience of students is compromised due to an unprecedented situation is unjust to the undergrad, graduate and PhD students at the University of Toronto. The University of Toronto has been ranked 18th globally in the 2020 World University Rankings, and 1st in Canada. With this prestigious title wouldn’t the University of Toronto be at the forefront for providing their students with a lower tuition cost for the upcoming school year?
