This petition is to raise awareness about the vulnerability of off-campus students. There is an alarming rise in gender-based violence which has increased the safety risk of the lives of innocent students. The University of the Western Cape must reach a state of taking charge by making means of ensuring that off campus accommodations are a safe haven for students. We also challenge the South African Police Services to ensure that the Belhar area is crime free zone and students can walk from the places they reside at to the library and back without having to fear for their lives. The EFFSC UWC will always be on the side of those that are unfairly oppressed. UWC and SAPS must unite and prevent gender based violence.
