Thomas Silva started this petition to University of the Pacific Administration

Veterans Day, originally celebrated as Armistice Day after World War I, became a legal US holiday in 1938 and officially came to be known as Veterans Day in 1954. It is a day that all Americans set aside to acknowledge those who have served their country in the Armed Forces. This day is important not just to Veterans but it is also a time for them to celebrate their service with their families as well. The University of the Pacific does not however, recognize this holiday on their academic calendar. Most Student Veterans are offered an excused absence for the day but if they choose to do so they miss out on valuable instructional time. As a federal holiday, Veterans Day is recognized by public schools, community colleges, and the California CSU and UC system. It is about time that the University of the Pacific honors its Student Veterans as well.
