It is well known (and frankly embarrassing) that there is a desperate need for a community at Chelsea College of Arts. Due to Chelsea's location, local pubs are sparse and unaffordable, and Pret just doesn't cut it. Our third year was introduced with a lecture on how important community is, but it takes more than just telling people for it to become reality.

In our eyes, a student bar at Chelsea would be the antidote to this epidemic of awkward studios and painful silences. It has the potential to act as a thriving hub for the essential conversations and collaborations between students that make art school art school, allowing Chelsea more of a voice amongst arts universities across the country.

Chelsea HAS a functioning bar on site. However, even after students have consistently asked for a licence to be renewed, the case is inevitably dropped as the third years leave. This cycled has happened every year since the bar was decommissioned, and its time to break it.As far as we can see a premises licence only costs £2,500 per year - a price that seems wholly reachable considering the extortionate price of current university fees and the ear increasing amount of students in the college.

What is the point of voicing your opinion if you’re ignored?
