Getting a copy of your official college transcript is required for many opportunities away from the University of Texas. For UT undergraduate students looking to apply to graduate school, law school, medical school, jobs after graduation, or to transfer schools, acquiring the official document is crucial in finishing the application. However, the University of Texas Office of Registrar insists on charging $20 per copy that is requested. When applying to multiple different jobs, the price skyrockets, and is a significant amount of money to almost any student, especially living in Austin. Personally, as a kid in college living on a college budget, my ambitions to reach my life long professional goals come at a large price. Honestly, I'm not sure how the people working in the Office of Registrar think I'm going to be able to pay for $100 worth of transcripts to apply to 5 medical schools, in hopes of getting into one of them where I will be subject to another 4 years of tuition. It seems ludicrous to think that the University of Texas, a large public school, is charging me to get a copy of my own grades that are simply numbers printed on a piece of paper. Therefore, I petition for a significant decrease in price per copy of each official college transcript to benefit all undergraduate students at the University of Texas at Austin.
