Shan Rizvi started this petition to University of Texas at Austin

On March 17th, 2020, (Former) UT Austin President Gregory Fenves announced that, in response to the growing number of cases of COVID-19, the university would be "moving all spring semester classes online". Classes would transition to remote lectures through Zoom and exams taken through online proctoring tools.

While the COVID-19 pandemic is in no way the fault of the university, students paid their tuition with an expectation that they would be receiving quality education, and that expectation has, with the move to online classes, not been met. Because students will be completing classes online that are not officially offered as online programs by the university, the students of UT Austin request the university to at least partially refund students for the spring semester of 2020.

We believe that it is not the students of UT Austin, many of which are low-income earners, to bear the financial burden of the impact of COVID-19 while we bear the academic cost. The University of Texas at Austin has an annual budget of over 3 billion USD and an endowment of over 30 billion USD and thus has the resources to bear this financial burden.
