Extended Thanksgiving break

I believe being a student at a rigorous school like the University of Texas demands a week off for a special holiday like Thanksgiving so that students have the opportunity to take care of their travel plans in time as well as spending time with their family. An extended break allows students to mentally and physically recover from the long semester before coming back to focus on final projects, papers, and exams. The end of the semester becomes very stressful and challenging for many, therefore a week long break would reward the students before an intense academic period. I believe that an extended break would allow students at the University to not only escape the college environment, but allow themselves the chance to return home and visit with family and friends. As a freshman, I understand the feeling of being homesick adds to the stress of being in a new environment, therefore the time spent with family is very valuable for one's wellbeing. Even if you aren't returning home, a week off of school would allow you to recover mentally and physically and have time for yourself.
