Lauren Bryant started this petition to University of Tennessee at Chattanooga

At the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), 43% of students have have experienced food insecurity and 54% of students have been aware of another student who was experiencing food insecurity. Those experiencing food insecurity often struggle to think of anything other than their hunger or where their next meal will come from during their classes or activities on campus; therefore, hindering academic performance and negatively impacting one's quality of life. In order to help reduce this number of food insecure students, UTC has created a food pantry, Scrappy's Cupboard, in which canned goods and nonperishable items are available for students for free. However, since the opening of Scrappy's Cupboard in 2017, the university has not given much thought to the pantry. It is a donation-based pantry that receives little, if any, funding from the school itself. Moreover, UTC fails to offer students healthy foods in the school dining hall, markets, and food court that are not overpriced. If a student has a meal plan, purchasing these healthier options may be easier, but once a student "runs out" of money from their meal plan, those options are no longer as obtainable. A student without a meal plan is faced with overpriced food options from the beginning of their semester. Because of these obstacles, I am challenging UTC students to sign this petition in order to demand attention from Chancellor Angle and other faculty members at UTC and to make changes for students, by students.
