I Will Not Study At An Arts School That's Not At Hunter Street

It has come to light in the past few weeks that the Tasmanian Liberals and Tourism Industry are in conversation with the University to repurpose the Tasmanian College of the Arts at Hunter Street into yet another hotel.
For this to happen however, would require the University of Tasmania to prematurely end its lease of the IXL Factory.
The Art School is a vital part of the waterfront precinct, and maintains the waterfront as a dynamic and integrative space that caters for residents and visitors alike.
We believe the plan to relocate the Art School is not in Hobart's and the University's broader interest, and contradicts local planning strategies.
The IXL Factory represents a large drawcard for attracting interstate and international students to study the arts in Hobart, and for encouraging locals to stay.
We do not support the proposal for the University of Tasmania to prematurely end its lease at Hunter Street. If the University of Tasmania chooses to do so, we pledge to seek alternative study locations.
We hope that the Hunter Street Art School remains a vibrant and iconic art school for many years to come.
