Stop the University of Sydney from Teaching Sharia Law

This is a really, really big deal.
It starts with universities and academia. Then it becomes party policy. Then it becomes law. It's not a slippery slope, it's the logical conclusion of normalising and institutionalising this practice and belief system.
The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils petitioned the Government to legally recognise Sharia Law in 2011. Luckily, that submission was rejected by the then-Gillard Government and former Attorney-General Robert McClelland.
Unfortunately, the push for legal pluralism hasn't ended there. Now it's being taught as a subject at the University of Sydney (titled Muslim Minorities And The Law) despite Sharia Law being notoriously anti-women.
A simple example of this, is that under Sharia Law, as defined by Chapter 2:223 of the Qur'an (sūrat l-baqarah);
"Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish and put forth [righteousness] for yourselves."
This is legal permission for marital rape, and is only one of many anti-women teachings and practices under Sharia Law.
The text book taught in this course, written by those who teach it (Salim Farrar and Ghena Krayem 2017) state that under Sharia "there is no minimum age for a contract of marriage, but it should not be consummated if that would cause harm to the putative spouse" (Farrar and Krayem 2017, p.61).
How can a university teach a course which advocates and promotes, or at the very least, normalises child marriage? How is this even remotely acceptable in a contemporary Australian context?
Legal pluralism is what allowed Jakarta's Christian Governor Ahok to be jailed for two years for "blasphemy" (he quoted the Qur'an) and which allowed two gay men, who had engaged in consensual sex, to be caned eighty-three times! Back at home, we had the Muslim cleric Imam Ibrahim Omerdic perform a marriage ceremony between a 14-year-old girl and a 34-year-old man at the Noble Park Mosque (Vic) as he told her "as a wife you have a duty to obey your husband".
This is madness.
We ask those at the Sydney Law School (of the University of Sydney) Professor Joellen Riley, Professor Matthew Conaglen and Susan Channells of the School Executive to shut this course down.
