Queer Action Collective - University of Sydney started this petition to University of Sydney and

This petition calls for the resignation of Simon Hardman as Head of Campus Security at the University of Sydney based on allegations of homophobia made by the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal on 29/11/2019.

The University of Sydney should uphold its commitment to LGBTQI+ students and staff by opposing all forms of LGBTQI+ discrimination in accordance with their Bullying, Harassment, and Discrimination Prevention Policy 2015. By allowing Mr. Hardman to continue fulfilling his duties following this landmark tribunal, the University sends a clear message to its students, staff, and alumni their complacency regarding discrimination against LGBTQI+ people.

Four gay officers have won their landmark discrimination case against NSW Police after their employer, Simon Hardman, subjected them to an internal drug investigation based on their sexuality four years ago.

The men claim the 2015 investigation stemmed from a "homophobic culture" fostered by senior management, including Commander Simon Hardman, at Newtown Police Station in Sydney's inner-west. The former Superintendent Hardman was "homophobic" when he referred the men to undergo six months of drug testing. In lodging an official complaint with NSW Police, Mr Hardman said "close friendships" between the five officers and their attendance at bars such as Stonewall on Oxford Street, raised "further suspicion." Mr Hardman claimed the men were "notorious for their promiscuity" and had a reputation for "loose morals." "Drug use is thought to be fundamental in such indiscriminate sexual encounters," the complaint read.

The 2015 investigation found "no direct evidence of drug use" or "related misconduct" against any of the officers. The court found Mr Hardman "was motivated, consciously or unconsciously, to make complaints ... by reason of their homosexuality".

The University of Sydney should uphold its commitment to preventing discrimination on campus, in workplaces, and in society more broadly, and take a firm stance in response to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal's decision to charge NSW Police with discrimination. The signatories of this petition call for the immediate resignation of Simon Hardman as Head of Security at the University of Sydney in response to the tribunal's accusations of homophobia placed directly against him.
