Holly Hayne started this petition to University of Sydney Department of Political Economy

The climate crisis is the single biggest threat facing our future. As governments around the world refuse to faze out fossil fuels, we are looking at a catastrophe of epic proportions. Hundreds of thousands of people will be displaced as sea levels rise and extreme weather events become commonplace. We are at the beginning of the sixth mass extinction - already we are seeing the destruction of vital ecosystems such as the Amazon Rainforest and the Murray Darlin Basin. A global movement, kickstarted by Greta Thunberg, is demanding that governments all around the world act on the climate crisis. So far governments have ignored the demands of the mass of ordinary people. Our only hope lies in building mass movements that can challenge the powers that be and force change. We call on the University of Sydney Political Economy Department to reschedule exams set on the day of the Global Climate Strike so that students can attend the Sydney Global Day for Climate Justice protest on November 29. This department has a history of supporting progressive social movements and it is an shame that our plea has so far been ignored.
