Why this petition matters

Started by Mimi Powell

University education has been diminished by strike action for many years now. Although we do sympathise with the lecturers position to strike, the negative implications it has on our learning and our higher education is outrageous.

Every year students pay exorbitant fees to attend university, which is a service. However, the Strike Action has caused major disruption to the quality of service we are paying for. Many students had little to no university for the past three weeks which is detrimental on our education. Furthermore, it is unforgivable that topics that have been affected by the strikes are still being examined, despite all the interference.

Every student has obligations, laid out by the University, that is expected to be followed. Yet the University is failing to provide, at the very least, satisfactory education. It is therefore very unjust to not compensate us students when the university is not fulfilling its role.

For these reasons, the students attending the University of Sussex would like to be compensated and the consequences of the Strike Action to be taken into consideration on our learning and any upcoming assessments.
