The University of Southern Indiana has announced recently that they have changed their mask policy for the Fall 2020 Semester. Whereas previously the policy stated individuals were recommended but not required, now the university has changed this to require everyone to wear a mask at all times when indoors. This is not only unreasonable, but it is also unnecessary and tramples on the ability of individuals to feel comfortable and safe on campus. This new mask policy plays into fear and stokes the flames of hysteria to further the idea that masks are necessary and proven tools to stop the spread of the virus. However, the information and science do not fully support this.

The aim of this petition is to have the University of Southern Indiana walk back its mask policy. This would allow for individuals to choose whether they want to wear a mask or not. People should be able to feel safe on campus without being forced into a placebo "safety" that isn't certain.

Masks can create a false sense of safety. They can also instill a sense of fear and panic. And for those who have conditions in which breathing is difficult, such as asthma and/or anxiety or panic attacks, these masks can make breathing even more difficult.

I hope that this petition garners enough support and attention to show the university and its officials that students do not want a mandatory mask policy and that the policy should be walked back. A mandatory masked campus is one of fear and suspicion, not one of harmony and inclusion.

Even if you choose to wear a mask, please support this petition and allow others to have the right to choose.
