Sydney England started this petition to University of Southern Indiana

Seven different women attending the University of Southern Indiana have come out with allegations of sexual assault against a soccer player and student at the school. Even though this student is very well a possible immediate threat to the school’s students, no action has been taken against him. The school claims to be investigating the situation in question, but it seems that the school is protecting him. The school’s soccer team has blocked multiple accounts who have come forward asking why he is still on the team and why they are making an effort to protect him. The team has also strongly limited their comment section and no longer allows themselves to be tagged in other posts regarding Instagram Stories. As of now, the team has not come forward with any statement regarding the situation. In the Fall 2020 semester, the school was quick to remove a freshman with Tourette’s Syndrome from campus for causing a “disturbance” and “for the safety of students.” Tourette’s Syndrome is a neurological disorder and the student was unable to control what they said, but they never attempted to cause physical harm towards students. If this was considered a big enough issue regarding safety to the school’s students, why would this situation not be treated with the same energy? As a precaution, those accused of assault should be removed from all campus activities they participate in at least until they are proven to be innocent. Sexual assault is a crime that should not be treated lightly. The term is always “innocent until proven guilty,” but survivors of these heinous acts are really considered to be liars until their situation is proven true in this case. Many will say that false allegations can ruin someone’s life, but we should really be thinking about the lives of those affected by sexual assault. Those memories don’t disappear. All universities should stand behind survivors and believe them first. The University of Southern Indiana is allowing a predator to have free range of their college campus.
