Cut University of Southampton's ties with Arms Dealers
This petition had 218 supporters
BAE Systems is the world's third largest arms producer. 93% of its sales are military and they are sold indiscriminately around the world as BAE doesn't believe it has a moral obligation to consider its customer's actions.
To this end BAE is currently supplying Saudi Arabia with Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft. These warplanes are playing a central role in Saudi Arabia's attacks in Yemen (Washington Institute, 11.8.2015 & Hansard, 6.6.2016) which have been condemned by human rights organisations. Typhoons, operated by the Royal Saudi Air Force but made in the UK, have bombed numerous targets, contributing to the conflict's thousands of casualties. The citizens of Yemen are just one of the tragedies of BAE's reckless arms sales.
In 2004 the University of Southampton signed a multi-million pound research agreement with BAE Systems and in 2016 Southampton strengthened this agreement with a strategic framework agreement to help them develop their technology. In addition to this, Southampton engineering and computer science graduates are encouraged to take internships and grad schemes with this morally reprehensible company as part of their long standing alliance. Sign this petition if you think the University should cut ties with BAE systems and put the wishes of their students above profit and vested interest.
