Preserve the USA Bike Trails!!

In the past year, a chunk of the USA bike trails was taken away to make way for the construction of an indoor football practice field. That loss was bad enough, but now the University wants to take away HALF of the remaining trails that we use for exercise, relaxation, and an escape from the city/campus calamity.
With half the trails gone, that means our quality time in nature could be cut in half, and that's not even the worst. These trails are also home to hundreds of trees and shrubs; thousands of birds, reptiles, squirrels, and insects. With the trails wiped away, the precious habitat of all of those living creatures vanishes!!
Not only do the trails serve us scenic views, they provide us oxygen and other valuable resources. Each tree, on average, produces 260 pounds of oxygen a year. Each acre cut down is equivalent to driving an average car for 26,000 miles every year https://www.thoughtco.com/how-much-oxygen-does-one-tree-produce-606785
The plans for the future intramural fields (to make way for a football stadium smacked right on top of the current intramural fields) calls for the destruction of a minimum of 40 acres of forest. This means that the school would be putting a strain on the local environment by taking away trees that annually suck in carbon dioxide equivalent to 6,933 cars driving from our campus to New Orleans for a bowl game every year.
By signing this petition, you show the school administration that you care more about our local environment and our beautiful winding bike trails than you care about a trivial ball game that could potentially foster a campus eyesore that is an on-campus football stadium (something the University cannot possibly sustain as of now and for many years to come). Please sign today so we may keep South beautiful!!
