Unisa Students started this petition to University Of South Africa Statistics department

On the 7th of November 2020 at 17:30 we were scheduled to write an online STA1502 Exam.
The system had numerous issues that really disadvantaged students writing experience and performance.

The system issues included:

  • The system was inaccessible for some students;
  • The system was slow to save our answers which resulted in students losing time and not completing the exam;
  • system crashes that meant that students would have to restart the whole exam.
  • not all students were able to re-do the exam as it was communicated by the department.
  • some questions did not load tables and necessary information.
  • the system didn’t also extend time as it was communicated it would.

We ended up writing up until the late hours of 22:00 from 17:30.

The stress of the system issues messed with the mental preparedness to write this exam and it possibly affected the performance of students negatively. It is only right to allow all students an opportunity to rewrite this exam.
