Michelle New started this petition to University of San Francisco and

Last academic year, USF’s tuition was increased by 4.4% and students had little to no say about it. This increase was also disclosed at a time that did not allow students to properly prepare to transfer to a less expensive school. Overall, there was a lack of transparency about the situation, even after a forum in the spring about the tuition increase. This academic year, USF has proposed an even larger increase of 4.9%. USF has disclosed this proposal early enough for students, faculty, and parents to take action. Administration at USF had a forum to answer questions about tuition and financial aid on November 6th but students were not satisfied with their responses. If we as a community voice our discontent through this petition, we have a chance of lowering the proposed tuition increase of 4.9%. I urge you to stand with the members of our USF community that this increase will affect most: low income students, students of color, undocumented students. If we do not resist this tuition increase, it will continue to happen and will force many promising students to leave their current community and transfer or drop out of school altogether. I am proposing as a solution that this tuition increase and all future tuition increases be capped at 3% in order to ensure that students are not blindsided by increased costs and know what to expect in their years at USF.
