More active security around The University of Salford and Peel Park Quarters
Highlighted issues at Peel Park Quarter
Students at the University of Salford and residents of Peel Park Quarter have been ignored in their efforts to raise concerns about the required degree of security.
Crime has increased substantially in the region over the previous year, and the university campus has its own problems with gang-related crime and teenage boys wearing balaclavas intimidating and scaring students, as well as damaging cars and other property in the institution's car parks.
Students have reported these groups to Campus Living Villages, as they occur outside their building, and have been informed that they have little recourse because they do not own the site. The University of Salford has not yet responded to the issue.
When students were choosing between on-campus housing options, the majority chose Peel Park Quarter due to the advertised 24-hour security. However, students have discovered that this security is limited to the inside of the building and does not extend to what occurs outside their doors.
The students of the University of Salford and residents of Peel Park Quarter are demanding that their safety is taken seriously and demand that security is increased.
