Preventing the spread of COVID-19 on our campus and moving to online classes.
Why this petition matters
With over 100,000 cases across 100 countries, safety and health are priorities. Much of our student body is predominantly from North Eastern areas already affected by the virus (New Rochelle recently brought in the National Guard). The University of Richmond also has a large body of international students who, should the gravity of the situation continue moving in the direction that it has been, could be prohibited from traveling back home. Our university should allow these students to travel home without having to worry about academic disadvantages. While education, social life, and an active daily routine are all vital aspects of life and college, there can be none of those without...life. Staying alive and healthy is the number one priority and online classes are a simple and efficient solution. Many top tier schools including Harvard, Duke, Georgetown, Pepperdine, and dozens more have already moved to online classes. The solution is clear and simple and so is the risk. Trying to hold together a month of physical classes is not worth the risk.
