Thabang Pikoko started this petition to COUNCIL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA and

This is a petition to get the Council of the University of Pretoria (the highest decision making body of the University) to sanction and order the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), the Independent Monitoring Body (IMB), and the University of Pretoria management to have a rerun for the 2020 UP SRC President Portfolio with Sipiwe Ntiyantiya included on the ballot. The 2020 SRC elections for the portfolio of the Presidency were neither free nor fair. Sipiwe Ntiyantiya was deliberately dismissed and disqualified based on the incompetence of the Department of Student Affairs and their inability to make sure that their databases are updated. Despite the overwhelming evidence that Sipiwe Ntiyantiya has led and served in student structures of the university, the DSA  has stood firm that they cannot update their 2019 database even though it was an admin error on their side.

The UP Student Court (Constitutional tribunal), an independent judiciary student structure heard the matter between Sipiwe Ntiyantiya vs IEC vs IMB vs SRC and concluded that Ms Ntiyantiya should be allowed to contest since she has complied with all eligibility requirements (according to the Constitution for student governance) to stand for the portfolio of President. The University instead of correcting this injustice, they threatened the UP student Court with the hope that they would change their verdict. The Director of student Affairs (DSA) after failing to threaten the Constitutional tribunal then hired an overnight "independent" private investigator to investigate the matter. The very same "independent" private investigator was accountable to the already biased Director of Student Affairs. The report of the private investigator was a duplicate of what the university through the DSA and the IEC have been claiming, that Ms Spiwe Ntiyantiya is not eligible to be on the ballot.

This petition serves to highlight the lack of recourse students have when unjustly and unfairly eliminated, and discriminated against by the IEC, IMB and the University. This questions the legitimacy of IEC, IMB and the DSA when it comes to the election processes. The DSA failed to serve the best interests of students and has victimized not only Ms Sipiwe Ntiyantiya but the students who could have voted for her.

The University of Pretoria has long been suppressing black students (females in this particular regard) and their activism by turning them against each other and moreover endorsing the patriarchal traits of silencing women in leadership. In the spirit of fairness, accountability and democracy let us join hands and put a stop to the bureaucracy of UP management. Sign the petition and share with your friends. #UPHatesDemocracy
