During my time at Pitt (2004-2008), there were some students who were open-minded and ready to soak up information that challenged them and some who weren't. To become a citizen of the world, a base level knowledge of black history, culture, and issues is necessary. (I hesitate to even say "black" before those words because it is all our history/issues.)

As a Pitt alum, I wish this had been a requirement when I was there.

Learning about different cultures and backgrounds makes a more rounds individual. There is far too much ignorance regarding black history and culture and it would be beneficial for everyone to learn and participate.

I’m a Pitt graduate and it’s very important to spread knowledge about the racism and inequality faced by members of the black community. I feel as if, especially coming from a small predominately white town, that the understanding of the black community and the challenges still faced by it today are largely under taught and ignored by white people and students today.

I didn't go to Pitt, but my undergraduate university didn't offer anything like this, and it SORELY needed to. Every university should do this.

I do not and have never gone to this school. However after looking into the education system in PA, CA, GA, and WA, it's clear that almost every university in the US needs this. Personally, I attended Drexel. Clearly a lot of anti-blackness was exhibited by a lot of students as well as staff and the businesses they moved in. UPenn, University of Sciences, and Temple also need to adjust their priorities.

Black history is American history.
