Why this petition matters

Started by Hope Martin

The University of Pittsburgh is planning to have in person classes this fall even though there have been no breakthroughs in vaccines or medication to help aid COVID-19. They are saying for larger classes there will be 1 day of in person classes a week, but how is that worth paying full tuition amounts for 1/3 days of classes as well as a huge increased risk of catching the virus?

Things that have reopened have shown surges in COVID-19 cases. Pitt says that in person teaching is so important but it is putting lives at risk and they do not seem to have a good set plan in how they will curb these cases. Bringing people from all over the country back to the university is not smart. They have not been able to say anything concrete about testing or cleaning besides the idea of it. While they say if you are too anxious about COVID to come in you can take online classes I do not feel like that is fair for people to be paying so much tuition to take online classes just out of fear of catching an illness that can hospitalize you, ruin your lungs, or even cause death.
