Penn: Expand GSWS to provide the resources students and faculty deserve
The Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies (GSWS) program at the University of Pennsylvania is, as it reads, a program and not an academic department. This status denies GSWS the ability to hire their own faculty or have autonomous funding streams. GSWS must have the ability to hire professors of gender and sexuality: In this aspect, Penn comes in last in the Ivy League. Penn is the only Ivy League University without a standing professor (or professors) of gender and sexuality, denying Penn students the same access to queer and feminist knowledge as their Ivy League peers. It is well known that queer and feminist studies are a critical field of contemporary academia: It's time that Penn stops neglecting them. Sign to support the expansion of GSWS and the hiring of more scholars!
