Over the last few decades, dozens of majestic and beautiful Kalahari lions have been slaughtered by trophy hunters around Hwange National Park. But what if we could bring them back? The good news is that DNA samples from these big cats are available at the storage rooms of the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit at Oxford University, all collected before the cats were killed. Their genes, specifically, the ones that make them unique, such as head shape, face shape, and mane size or color, should be inserted into the cells of other lions to produce similar replicas to the ones that were killed. The following lions should be cloned this way - Cecil, Pamwe, Oliver, Judah, Job, Kakori, Mopane, Sidhule, Chikarubi, Almondo, Bush, Ebusuku, Kakori, Lumuno, Nxaha, Peugeot, Scaredy-cat, Vuka, and the 4 Ngamo Boys. The cells should then be inserted into wild lionesses living in tourism concessions bordering Hwange National Park, and hopefully, these kings of the past could once again roam the grasslands, living free and in the wild.
