As a 2009 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, I urge our university administration to officially condemn the "Kill the Gays" bill and reach out to the Ugandan Catholic Church to ask them to stand against the bill.
This bill mandates the death penalty, life imprisonment, and other draconian measures to punish LGBTQ people, and even people who refuse to “out” them to police.
As members of the Notre Dame community, we know that we have a unique role and responsibility in standing with our Ugandan brothers and sisters. We study abroad there, we work with NGOs there, we share our Congregation of the Holy Cross with them.
Notre Dame has instilled in us a passion for human rights. As a community we will fight for them.
While I encourage everyone to join this campaign, if you're a current or former student, staff, or faculty member of the University of Notre Dame, please say so in the "Reasons for signing" section. Thanks!
