It is outrageous that the University of North Texas would upend the lives of these scholars with no credible or specific allegations against them. This is a blemish on the reputation of the University of North Texas, and brings harm to the scholars being expelled, the effects of which they will continue to feel for a very long time.

Why did I sign? As a retired Prof. of Physiology and Neuroscience I am concerned with academic freedom and openness for communication and exchange in all fields but especially in science.
I am also concerned about the growing harassment of Chinese including street attacks and academic harassment.
But most of all I am concerned about the growing hostility to China of which this UNT action is clearly a part and which could lead us into a conflict with China that would engulf the world.
Henry Kissinger, no pacifist, said that the great challenge of the 21st Century is for China and the US to work out a framework of peace. If we do not, he said, the conflict will wreak destruction on the entire world equal to that of WWI on Europe. Since such conflict could easily propel us into nuclear war, we are in fact talking about the possibility of nuclear Armageddon.
This is the course that this action of the UNT helps to keep us on. It is time to get off this train and the UNT could contribute to that by reversing this highly discriminatory action based on nationality and race.

I am a current UNT student.

This is blatant racism and xenophobia at the hands of UNT leadership, which is especially heinous given the global pandemic and how prejudice against Chinese people has increased.

I am ashamed of UNT.

I think that this is a ruse and Trump is trying to blame China (including Chinese scholars) to deflect blame from himself. Chinese scholars in the US have made huge contributions to science. Let them stay!
