With COVID-19 cases rising all throughout North Texas, multiple new variants popping up across the United States and rest of the world, and many other schools implementing extra precautions would be the smartest thing is to do the same. It would be very easy to go virtual for the first two weeks, or even push the start date back two weeks. The school seems to be putting profit above student safety and it's not sitting right. Immunocompromised students and students that aren't fully vaccinated are also at risk of hospitalization if one thing goes wrong. This isn't a "we don't want to be educated" it's a "we're paying you for an education and should feel safe on campus or off", and the only current precautions that are seen are: mandatory testing that you can opt out of with a vaccine card, "strongly encouraged" but not enforced mask use around campus, and quarantine if symptoms show or if awaiting a test result (obviously quarantine because of a positive test), and that isn't nearly enough.
